Can’t update my widget

    I want to update my widget but when I push edit while in the customizer it wont let me edit anything. Please help!

    Sorry to hear that you’re having trouble! Can you try clearing your browser cache or try from a different browser to see what happens? Here’s how to clear your browser cache: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

    If you’re still seeing the same issue, please describe what happens when you try updating the widgets. Do you see any error messages? If possible, please take a screenshot and upload it to your media library here: https://wordpress.com/media

    We’ll then take a look to see what you’re seeing.

    Hi!

    Thank you so much for your quick reply! I cleared my cache, and the problem remains. I go into the customizer and try to click on the little blue pen next to the widget I want to edit, and nothing happens. No error message, simply nothing. I go into the right side panel and choose “Widgets” and it is simply loading.

    Uploaded two screenshots to my media library.

    That sure does look like an interesting problem.

    Can you tell me what browser you’re using please? Along with any extensions that may be in place please.

    I’m having a hard time replicating the issue so would you try in a private Firefox window or in another browser (like Chrome) and see if you see the same behavior?

    If so, we’ll have a bit more to go on. Let us know how that goes!

    I tried with Safari and the same issue remains, does that help?

  • Ok, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

    If it is not, please try updating your browser.

    If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

    Hi!

    I have the latest version of Firefox (91.0.2). I have cleared my cache and cookies. Tried with the extensions and add-ons disabled. The issue remains.

    I updated my widgets some month ago or so, without a problem. The only thing that I changed since then is installing Big Sur on my Mac. Can this be the problem?

    That’s indeed a weird issue as I cannot replicate it on my end as well.

    Can you please try the Chrome browser and let us know how that goes?

    Very strange indeed.

    Let’s dig a bit deeper – would you be able to tell us click by click what changes you’re making from start to finish.

    We’d like to follow the steps so that we can replicate the issue and see if there’s any gaps happening.

    Hi!

    I go to My Home and click on Customize Theme. The Customizer loads and everything looks normal. But when I click on the little blue pen next to my top widget, nothing happens. Same with the other widgets. When I go into the right hand panel and click on “Widgets” they just keep loading (see screen shot in my Media Library).

    Thank you for that – I can replicate this!

    I’ve done some research internally and it looks like this a new known bug, that cropped up just 6 days ago.

    Even though we don’t have an ETA on this bug fix, I’ve add this report to tally.

    In the meantime, it looks like you would need to navigate manually to these widget areas in the customizer.

    How do you mean “navigate manually”?

    So you would go to Appearance > Customize > Widgets > select a widget area > and then click on a widget to edit it.
