Can't update or edit widgets

  • Unknown's avatar

We have two users with administrative privileges on our blog (EverywhereOnce.com) and neither one can update the blog’s widgets. We can access the widget page and see the widget boxes we’ve already set up, but can’t expand those boxes to make any changes. We also can’t drag any new widgets to our sidebar or footers or remove any existing widgets. Basically, the entire screen is read only.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What browser and version are they using? Are they in Compatibility mode? If so, disable it.

4 times on Freshly Pressed? Good for you, but I do wish they’d instigate a rule that once a year is all you can do. Otherwise, the editors can get lazy. I speak as an editor (though not a FP editor).

Thanks for the quick response. The problem appears with both Explorer (not compatibility mode) and Chrome browsers.

And thanks for the Freshly Pressed kudos. I think the 4 honors were probably each awarded roughly 9 months apart (give or take).

I’ve heard of issues with Chrome lately, and older Explorer always throws fits. I’m afraid I have no suggestion but to try Firefox or Safari or an alternate browser. Perhaps another volunteer will have some ideas.

So the problem occurs with the Firefox browser as well.

If I add WordPress to Explorer’s compatibility list, I can edit my widgets that way. I don’t seem to be able to single out the widgets page for compatibility mode, meaning that I may have problems with other WordPress pages because of this “fix.”

Long story short, I’ve found a work around but it’s less than ideal. My guess is that a recent update broke the widgets page but I’m still searching for other suggested solutions.

    Many thanks,
    Brian
