can't upload image into library (results in no images, just a name)

  hi,

  I just started my own site, set up theme etc, and i wanted to upload an image to the media library. The image loads, crunches and then the image is not shown. i just see the name, something like “DSC099026” but no image.
  i’ve read a lot on forums and have tried everything i could find… changing “Store uploads in this folder”, set the permission to 777 (by several folders), created a new folder (again permission 777), i’ve played with the “Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders button, deactivated plug ins, uninstalled en than again installed wordpress; htaccess. everything is in order but still i dont see my image.
