Can’t upload images more than 10k

  • Unknown's avatar

I have been struggling with uploading images since creating two new blogs on a new account. I can upload, but only images of less than 10k. Anything larger (ie 15 or 20k) and the uploader seizes, then eventually times out and presents me with a blank page.

I have tried with both the Flash and Browser uploaders, in Firefox and IE, and have cleared caches on both.

I have contacted customer support, and had an email several days ago, to clarify the situation, but since that time it has gone completely quiet and no solutions have been offered.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Still no solutions sadly. I can upload files to Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, YouTube and via ftp but not to WordPress. I really don’t think it’s me – I’ve tried different browsers, different computers and different connections. My filenames are simple, like flower.jpg. I’ve cleared my caches. Still the same problem. Can’t upload jpg images of over 10k, and customer support show very little interest – they say it’s a problem with my browser or connection.

Anyone got any ideas of what I can do, or do I simply have to switch to Blogger if I want a blog that actually works?

We can’t help you without a link to your blog, starting with http.

On this blog, I was able to upload over-10k images on 2 occasions over the past 10 days. I am trying about 3 or 4 times a day, and most of the time it simply does not work.

This is the first blog I created. I actually succeeded in uploading a custom header, after quite a few attempts, but it has now disappeared. I created the second blog because of the image upload problems on this blog

Try saving your images in gif format. It’ll make everything quicker and easier.

Thanks for the tip, but it’s not much help in my case as the images I want to work with are all photos. Gifs work OK for graphics, but photos have to be a huge filesize if they are not going to be dithery. An example photo I just converted was 12k as a jpg but 52k as a gif!

Also, can someone please tell my why my posts are disappearing from this forum. I posted before I went to bed last night, and this morning all the posts that were around mine are there under ‘8 hours ago’ but mine is gone. Am I doing something wrong? The only way I can see my post is by clicking on my username at the top of the forum.

This is still not resolved but it keeps disappearing from the forum. Can someone explain why this is, please?

Afraid I can’t help you with either of your problems except to say that, regardless of where your threads end up, you should be able to find them by clicking on the word Member under your name:

Thanks. I do know that, but I would like my posts to stay here on the forum in case anyone else has an answer to my problem. I’m in the UK, so there’s a big difference in timezones between me and US users who might have and answer, but it’s no good if my posts are hidden after a few hours, before anyone has had a chance to look at them!

I don’t understand why I can see posts from people who posted just before and after me, but mine disappear. One theory could be that the folks at WordPress do not want to draw attention to people who are having problems uploading images. I suppose if over time other people go ME TOO, it could put people off and that could affect potential advertising revenue.

    Just a thought.

jakikari, posts should not disappear from the forum. If you are having technical difficulty with the forum, do contact us using the contact support form and we will definitely look into it. As for the image upload problem, I have been working with you in support over the past few days and I wanted to post the solution you found in case it helps other users. Here is part of what you said in your last message:

I contacted my ISP today and all appeared normal but they suggested I try changing my MTU settings, so I switched from 1460, which is what they normally recommend, to 1500.

It appears this fixed the problem in your case, however, the inability to upload image can sometimes be caused by a number of factors and there can be several variables in that kind of situation. It can take a little time to work through problems which may not be under our control, which is what happened in this case.

I hope your opinion of your experience with our support team has improved over the past few days. I do think that it was a tricky issue to sort out, and I am glad you were able to find the proper solution in the end!

I think he just means they get bumped from the front page. If you don’t click on the Support tab in the sidebar, you don’t get the option to page backwards, and not many people know about it.
