Can't use "Lost Password" link…assigned e-mail address is no longer valid
-
In addition to a free personal site, I purchased another site for a professional organization (http://d68tm.wordpress.com/). It has been quite awhile since I logged into the site and, as a result, am needing to reset the password. I have used the “Lost Password” link and have never received an e-mail with a link to reset the password. I realize now that the e-mail address associated with the site was is longer valid because of a job change. I am stuck and need to access the site to continue working on it. Is there anything that can be done to reset this password since I am no longer able to access the e-mail address associated with it? I have tried every possible password I could have used and have not been able to remember it.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Can you get access to the old email address?
We can only restore access to your account if you contact us from the email address on the account or provider your API Key as proof of ownership.
If you can get access to the old email address, you might as well just reset the password.

If there is any other possible way you could prove you are the owner who signed up for that blog, maybe they can check that. But if you gave them nothing else, there probably isn’t. You gave a password you have lost and an email address you have lost, so that probably means this is all lost.
You did say you PURCHASED the site. Maybe there is some way to match the payment credentials (if any are retained, such as an MD5 checksum of a CC number) with you now (if you still have the same CC). I don’t know that WP can accept that, particularly because of CC merchant agreements that restrict data retention. But it’s a possible idea.

Yes, if you paid for an upgrade under that account, we can also accept the transaction ID from your receipt as proof of ownership.

Your credit card bank may be able to obtain the transaction ID from their records if you have lost/discarded your CC statement that has it. I’ve successfully done that in the past through one of my CCs for a legal issue I had with a merchant that claimed they were not paid.

OK, so only the WP transaction ID, not the CC transaction ID. People need to keep these important emails (print them).

Yes, the WP transaction ID from the receipt. We have no way to cross-reference transaction IDs from credit card providers. Those for the bank’s reference only.

Hi macmanx,
I have a very similar issue. I’m trying to access the blog/reset the password, but the person that was the admin of the blog and received such emails is no longer with the company. Her email is not accessible at all. WordPress would have received a bounce back email as the email no longer exists. Here’s the site, http://westerndentaltips.wordpress.com/
Is there any workaround? She used a company email address. Thanks for your help.

Blogs are the property of the users who register them.
The email address on the blog now is lle[…] (at) westerndental.com.
Since this was a company email address, I recommend just having your IT department re-create that email address so you can receive the password reset email.
Otherwise, I can’t do anything without receiving an email from that address or receiving confirmation of the account’s API key.
