Can't use name of deleted categories?
-
I’m trying to rename my categories, but am unable to. I think it’s because I’m trying to change it to a category name I’ve used before (and then deleted), but for some reason WordPress has kept the category name and slug so I cannot use the same one. I’ve also tried creating a new category with the name I’m trying to change it to, but the slug appears with a “-2” at the end.
I have double-checked my categories and I have definitely deleted the previous categories (with the name I’m trying to change it to).
I’ve had similar trouble with posts and pages, but I’ve always managed to fix those by emptying the trash bin. However, for categories, there is no visible trash bin. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I wasn’t unable to duplicate the effect you describe. I just deleted a category, and seconds later recreated the category. The new slug was the same as the old, without an appended number “2.”

Not sure if it would matter, but are you using the Classic Editor or the New Editor? Depending on which one you’re using, maybe try switching to see if that helps.
Classic Editor: wanderflow.wordpress.com/wp-admin > All Posts >
Pick a post, and try to add/edit a category and save.
Just a thought…

@ ykikinm,
Are you deleting the categories at the posts categories page? On your site that would be https://wanderflow.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category.
