Can’t view blogs and avatars missing on homepage
-
Someone else posted about the avatar thing, but I’m having another problem and I’m wondering if it’s just me. I’m getting a “Problem loading page” error when I try to access my blog, and it also is happening when I try to click on the link to any other blog from the wordpress homepage.
Wondering if anyone (everyone?) else is having this problem right now or if I’m having personal technical difficulties (though I’ve tried restarting my computer as well as 2 browsers on 2 computers)
Thanks!

I think it’s a problem with our internet service right now, which I have semi-resolved, not sure why.

The avatars are cached to some extent. You may have hit a misfire when it tried to poll them and are just stuck with them missing until, as you mention, it tried again.

I actually think that for some reason WordPress has blocked my IP address. Is there someone I can contact about that?
-
Matt has stated that many times over that they do not block IP addresses and you woldn’t be able to post here in the forums if you were blocked.
I do note that you’re on a Comcast cable modem. They have a history of putting their clients behind broken proxy servers that’s been discussed here before.
Feel free to email support at this domain.

Hi,
I just wanted to add to the thread. Julia and I share a modem and we both have a wordpress blog. Neither of us can get a view of our blogs, etc.
I appreciate the link that you threw up drmike, but I dont seem to see any reference to the problem that we’re having, rather just a search result of the keyword: comcast.
Is there a previous post that mentions this specific issue? If we can pinpoint something then maybe we can solve this problem and leave a trail for others who are also having this same issue at some further point in time.
Thanks.

Not when your only choice for high speed internet is Comcast. DSL is not really an option due to the slower speeds.
I find it kind of hard to understand, and maybe someone here can clear this up for me, why this is only happening with wordpress. I can access every other site I attempt, including random search results from google – with no problems.
This makes me wonder if this isnt really a problem with wordpress and not comcast.

TT, here in the States most communities have monopolies on their cable systems for the most part. Here’s in Charlotte, most of us are stuck with Time Warner or you have to go over to DSL or another digital provider. It’s a left over of the Cable TV regulations where each community could auction off the rights.
Insert the standard “I’m not a member of automattic staff but there’s over eight years of hosting behind this with over 2k clients” statement.
We’ve had in the past many reports of users coming off Comcast lines getting connection issues. Comcast places most of it’s users behind proxy servers in an attempt to save on costs related to bandwidth. We’ve had issues with timeouts on page loading, corrupted cookies, days old pages being delivered to viewers instead of the updated ones, etc. For the most part, all of these issues have been users with Comcast, not any other ISP. (Well, them and the folks from Singapore on occasion.) That’s why I gave you that link so that you can see that other users with Comcast also have problems like yours.
You will note that no one else has reported the issue that you are having here in the forums. I don’t have backend or support ticket access so I can’t see what’s going on over there but someone would have spoken up by now.
Wish I could help (and I hope that Mark might be able to offer a suggestion or two) but it really looks like an issue with your connection.

Thank you for your help. Luckily, unplugging the modem for 5 minutes to release the IP address has resolved the issue, at least for now…
Just a heads-up, in case anyone else does happen to have the same problem in the future.
Have a happy new year!
