Can’t View Linked Websites in Navigation Menu

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I am building a portfolio website and am having difficulty viewing the About Me, Contact, and Posts section that is available in the navigation bar on my front page. When I check the link of the actual pages (for the about me, contact, etc) it says I have the right link but all I see when I click on it from the launched page is a blank screen. I tried messing around with it to figure it out myself but I’ve had no luck. Are there any suggestions for what I can do?

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

For reference, this is what the Posts Page looks like when I’m editing it:

I know that the pages for each section is there but I don’t where it goes. If the link is supposed to direct viewers to see what I screenshotted above minus the editing options, did I mess up while creating the pages?

  • Hi there, @degonzalez0125!

Did you still need help with this? I reviewed the site you shared and found that I can navigate to your pages using the menu you have set up on your homepage on your live site, as seen here: https://d.pr/v/hYhToW

Looking at your screenshot, I did want to clarify the differences between the Page Editor and the Site Editor. The Page Editor (when editing a page via My Site → Pages) is used to create and edit individual pages or posts on your website. It allows you to add and format text, images, and other content, and adjust the layout of your pages. The Site Editor (My Site → Appearance → Editor), on the other hand, is used to customize the overall design and layout of your website, including the header, footer, and other site-wide elements.

I did find that your menu is missing from your pages (other than your homepage). You can fix this by editing your header and adding a menu to your header using the Site Editor. More on how to do this here:

    WP
Use the Site Editor » Edit the Header

The header is the top part of a website that typically shows the site title, a logo, and a navigation menu. This guide will show you how to customize your website’s header. Requirements To follow the steps in this guide, choose a theme that supports the site editor. A quick way to determine if your site uses the site editor is to check for Appearance → Editor in your dashboard. Video Ov

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi, thank you for the clarification! It took a lot of toggling on my end to finally see what you see but I was able to get there! It’s very rewarding being able to see the finished product myself, haha!

Actually, one last question! I noticed while using the website, most of the text and images tend to stay only on the left side of the screen instead of using the entire width. Is there any way to make it full width?

Sorry I keep finding things to add, I’m trying to look at the posts I’m making from an external account and when I click on the stories I’ve published I keep seeing a blank screen again. Do you see the same thing from your end?

I am so sorry for bombarding you with so many questions. But after doing some research I realized I needed to sync the header so it would appear across the site. I tried doing it after having created the pattern and it says it is synced but I’m still having the same issue of being unable to clearly see the content. On my phone I need to scroll all the way down to catch a glimpse of what I added and on my computer, even if I scroll I’m not able to see anything.

  • Hi @degonzalez0125 – I’m actually not seeing that on my phone. I’m just on one of the small iPhones and I see your grey header, menu, search bar, etc.

The front page has some curious scrolling effects from the theme, but I can see the content. Is that what you’re seeing? If not, could you share what platform you’re viewing it with?

Hi @supernovia the front page, posts tab, about me tab, and contact tab are accessible for me without a problem. But when I click on the articles themselves under posts, I can’t see the header and the majority of the page is covered by a black screen with only the bottom part being accessible. On my phone I’m using Safari and on my laptop I used Google Chrome and Microsoft Search.

  • Hello @degonzalez0125

There’s one more step to get the header to appear on all your posts. And that’s to also add it to your Single Posts template:
    https://degonzalez0125.wordpress.com/wp-admin/site-editor.php?postType=wp_template&postId=pub%2Ffotograma%2F%2Fsingle

    Editing the Single Posts Template:

Also, I wanted to mention that you can get a custom domain free for the first year with an annual paid plan if you want to use one as your main site address.

Please let us know if you have any other questions about editing or need some recommendations for the site!
