Can't work out how to redirect old blog address to new address in site redirect
-
Hi there,
I have changed my blog name and I need to redirect as the links are broken in the google search. I am on the site redirect page where I have to pay for an upgrade however, it comes up with my new blog name. I need my old blog name up there as I need to redirect it to my new blog name.
For e.g. My old blog name is devonshireteaadventures.wordpress.com and my new one is thedevonshireteaguide.wordpress.com.
I am not given the option from directing from the first to the second, which is what I need.
Please help!
Thanks,
Toni

Try accessing “Store” from the dashboard of devonshireteaadventures.wordpress.com.
Let me know if you have any trouble.

staff-ozmodiar,
I’ve been having an issue with redirecting/masking–I’ve already paid for the redirect but I’m unable to update my DNS records for one of my blogs.

To get your Stire Redirect operational, you are going to need to log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard and go to Store–> Domains and set the primary domain to be “talkproof.bigcartel.com (Site Redirect)”.

I had it set as my primary blog when I first switched, and the redirect is still working fine, my issue is that the URL reverts back to the BigCartel URL instead of staying talkproof.co.

That is not something that the site redirect upgrade can control. It just sends visiting traffic to your new site, it doesn’t control the url of the destination site.
You may want to look into these instructions:

It looks like Big Cartel supports Domain Mapping if you have a paid account:

I did, and I have. The issue I’m having is this:

I HAVE to use Google Apps to verify ownership of my WP site, but nothing verifies because…I didn’t buy my domain through Google, but through WordPress. From what I’m understanding, I need to change the records to change the URL of the destination site, but I can’t access the DNS records without verifying through Google Apps. -
So it sounds like you are working on a couple different things here. Lets take them one at a time.
You have a paid big cartel account, correct?

staff-ozmodiar,
Yes I do. To minimize more back and forth, I’ll list everything out so you kind of get where I’m at with this issue. Let me know if anything is unclear.
The domain I am referring to is talkproof.co, which is being redirected to talkproof.bigcartel.com.
1. I’ve already taken the appropriate steps and changed my settings here. According to this article, this may be my issue:
My domain points to my store, but changes to the bigcartel.com URL in the browser’s address bar.
If your bigcartel.com URL is reverting in the address bar then your DNS provider is “masking” your domain. You’ll want to contact your DNS provider, and ask them to remove the masking. Once the masking has been removed your domain should work if you’ve followed the instructions provided for using your own domain. My domain doesn’t change to reflect the product or page I’ve viewing as I navigate through my store.
If your domain doesn’t change as you click through your store’s products and pages, then your DNS provider is using a frame. Using a frame can cause problems with your store’s functionality and will negatively impact your search engine rankings, since they don’t allow for unique page and product URLs to be indexed by search engines. To fix that you’ll want to contact your DNS provider, and ask them to remove the frame. Then you’ll want to choose your DNS provider from the list above, and use the instructions provided to set up your domain forwarding.
As my WP domain does forward to my BigCartel site, but the name vanishes instantly.
2. I’ve tried all of the domain related articles on WP–
a) I have a recurring issue with “ownership verification” through Google Apps (again, I have a domain with WP, not Google. I’ve tried signing up for the trial but they are still unable to verify my ownership). I’ve tried adding the TXT record through Google Apps but no avail.b) I’ve tried to domain manager to try to change the name server, but I’m unclear as to how to change it to a new names erver. I’m not too familiar with this, so I just plugged in random URLs and the only thing that works is if I copy the example, which adds “NS3.WORDPRESS.COM” into the name server. I’m stuck here because I don’t know what I need to put in here (BigCartel doesn’t do hosting, so I don’t know what I should be inputting) to get the name to change and stay to my domain, “talkproof.co”.
Basically, my issue is that I haven’t been able to have my WP domain point to and become the URL for my BC account.
Thanks.
