Can't write a post

  • Unknown's avatar

When I access my dashboard and try to write a post, I can type in the title, but can’t write the body of the post. When I type, the cursor moves across the screen, but nothing appears? This is very new as I only posted two day ago – went to post today and couldnt’ type anything?

Any reason why this is happening? Thanks in advance

Will you please provide us with some details so we can try to help you? Is the blog in question the one linked to your username? if not please post an active link to the blog you are referring to starting with http://

    1. How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

    2. Are you using http:// or https:// see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

3.Which browser and version of it are you using?

    4. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

    5. Is your browser version up to date? You can upgrade any browser version here.

    http://browsehappy.com/

    6. Do you have third party cookies enabled?

    7. Do you have JavaScript enabled?

    8. Do you have another browser you can try?

    9. You can use this link to see if your Flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not up to date then this is where to download and install the latest version of Flash. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

    10. Have you had any recent operating system and/or security program updates?
Sometimes operating system and/or security system updates can cause problems so check for known issues.

Sorry yes, the account is the one linked to my user name

    I have broadband

    I don’t have HTTPS

Safari 10.3.9 – I can no longer upgrade this without changing the computer :(

Will see if I can try on another computer

Please let us know how you make out using another computer. I do expect that using another browser may solve your problem.

Hi thank you for the help. I have borrowed a computer from a friend, and can post OK on this one. Why would I be able to post from my computer one day, and then suddenly not the next. Everythign else on the dashboard seems to work on my old computer, just not the typing?

There have been changes made to our Dashboards by Staff and you can read about then here > Drag & Drop Media Uploader & Flyout Dashboard Menus

I can’t help with computer issues. You will have to contact a local computer technician.

Thanks – I was hoping that the problem might lie at the wordpress end as I have no problems with using the computer for anything else, all programs working perfectly normally etc – except the write post/edit post function on wordpress. If I click on edit post – even the existing post doesn’t show, and when I try to type nothing shows, and the visual/HTTP button doesn’t work. Apart from that it’s all normal :(

Guess I’m just getting out of date and need to think about a new computer :(

    Thanks again

Would you like to report this to Staff and see if they can help you? If so, here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

Thanks yes, I will send it to the staff as I see the person posting just above/below me has exactly the same problem? Hopefully it is somethign fixable :)

    Thanks again for your help

It’s obvious that I’m not alone in the Visual Mode inaccessibility. It stopped functioning for me as well at the same time that others report problems. And photo-editing — forget it, it stopped working too. Clearly a WP problem.

“There have been changes made to our Dashboards by Staff and you can read about then here > Drag & Drop Media Uploader & Flyout Dashboard Menus” — AH, therein lies the problem!!!

Please give us our Visual Mode Editor back, WP!!!!!!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh yes – forgot that bit – couldn’t edit pictures on either computer – had to go back to my pc, edit the pic there, and upload it again

  • Unknown's avatar

@eumaeus – Don’t hold hope of WP helping beyond instructing you to clear cache/cookies and/or update browswer. (I’m having the same problem you’re experiencing.) They won’t fix it. Bottom line is: Get used to posting in HTML or find a new blogsite where Visual Mode functions.
