Capabilities

Hi, I am looking to start a business and know nothing about website design. I read that since my site will be similar to Twitter that a plugin like BuddyPress would be good. However, it requires me to upgrade my WordPress account. Being that I am just getting started and looking to see if this plugin can even do what I want, I was wondering if theres an ability to get plugins for free to test them out and then when I am ready to publish my site, I can then upgrade?

Also, I have my domain on on another domain site. My current website on WP is sportblips.wordpress.com. Could I design my website on WP then change my current domain to WP easily? Or will I have to design the whole website all over again once I transfer it over to WP?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your questions.

Also, I have my domain on on another domain site. My current website on WP is sportblips.wordpress.com. Could I design my website on WP then change my current domain to WP easily?

Yes, this is possible. I would recommend Domain Transfer. You can transfer the domain to WordPress.com so that you can manage your site and domain at the same place.

With any new plan purchase for a site, you’ll receive a domain credit which you can use to either register a new domain for free for a year, or transfer a domain to us for free (This would be your case). Upon a completed domain transfer, the domain is automatically renewed for a year. You would pay to renew the domain for subsequent renewals through WordPress.com.

You can use your free site to start building your site if you want the current one running in the meanwhile as well.

You can also use your old domain with WordPress.com by mapping it. Here is the difference:

I was wondering if theres an ability to get plugins for free to test them out and then when I am ready to publish my site, I can then upgrade?

Unfortunately it is not possible to test a plugin without an upgrade. WordPress.com does offer a refund policy though, so within that time you can try it out.

    The policy in this case:

“Most subscriptions can be canceled for a refund within 14 days of purchase or renewal, or 7 days for subscriptions that are billed monthly. This includes the WordPress.com Personal, Premium, Business, and eCommerce plans, Google Workspace, Professional Email, and Premium Themes.”

Being that I am just getting started and looking to see if this plugin can even do what I want

Personally I am not familiar with this plugin’s capabilities so maybe others can give you more information about any specific questions you might have. I did look at their website and they have a detailed feature list, some case studies, and a community support forum as well so you can probably learn a lot about the software even before using it. It is true though that using the plugin for your own is the true test.

But I am curious to see other forum members opinion here as well about this plugin.

Let us know what other questions you might have.
