Capability-manager-enhanced plugin
-
Hi,
I am looking to upgrade to a business plan in order to use the Capability-manager-enhanced plugin. This allows further levels of definition and restriction of user role. I have used stand alone wordpress installations many times, but I am yet to use wordpress.com hosted. The front end is different, and there seem to be limited options when creating a user. How do I know, without first upgrading to a business plan with a year’s payment upfront, that this will work for me? Are all the functions of wordpress available in hosted wordpress.com?Thankyou for any help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
For the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com you can visit the support article below:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Regarding the functionality you are looking, I think this is linked with the plugin functionality, and that behavior will be the same on a WordPress.org self hosted website and on WordPress.com.
Thanks

Thank you for the prompt reply. I know exactly what I wish to achieve and have a locally hosted site set up as a proof of concept. I was looking for confirmation that the hosted business level site will offer all the functionality of an independent wordpress install, all be it with a different front end. Can any administrator confirm this ?

Hello there, There’s a list of the plugins that are currently incompatible with our platform https://en.support.wordpress.com/incompatible-plugins/ and I don’t see the specific plugin you mentioned. Also, if you look for that plugin in the plugins dashboard, there is no notice that it is incompatible with WordPressdotcom https://wordpress.com/plugins/capability-manager-enhanced/
As far as a Business plan website being an exact 1:1 to a standalone WordPress install, I can’t say definitively that it is, but certainly close enough for all practical needs. You can run your own code, your own theme, install and run plugins, etc. If you break your site, you’ve got priority support via LiveChat and email. Here’s more on the features the Business plan offers: https://en.support.wordpress.com/business-plan/
Hope that helps answer your question but let us know if you need anything else after reading those support guides.

Thanks! Good to know that there is an incompatible plug-ins list, it sounds like there shouldn’t be any problem with what I want to do.

Hello again, glad to hear. If you do discover or decide that the Business plan doesn’t let you do what you want, WordPressdotcom has a 30-day refund from date of purchase policy for everything but custom domain registrations. Those need to be cancelled within 48-hours to qualify for a refund. Here’s the full policy: https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/
Let us know if you need anything else.
