Caption box beneath photos

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi All.
    When I use the Edit function and insert a photo the caption appears beneath it inside a text box. When I preview the post the caption box has gone. How do I get it to appear on the actual blog posting as well as in the Edit pane?
    Thanks,
    Geoff

    I checked your latest post at http://motopangaea.com/2014/06/14/and-finally-czeching-out/ and I see that you are using the Trvl theme. In that theme, you could make the caption borders and look a little closer to how they look in the editor by adding this to your Appearance > Customize > CSS editor:

    .wp-caption {
    	border: 1px solid #ddd;
    	text-align: center;
    	background-color: #f3f3f3;
    	padding-top: 4px;
    }

    .wp-caption-text {
    	padding: 5px 10px;
    	margin: 0;
    }

    You know, while the exact look that you see in the editor may not always match the theme on the front end, it does seem like captioned images in the editor look too different compared to how they look on the front end in this theme so I will also put in a request to see if someone from our theme team can have a look to make sure it’s working as it should be. In the mean time, the CSS snippet posted above may help as a workaround until the issue can be reviewed.

    Hi.
    Thanks for your reply which I’ve now put into effect and it’s done the job.
    Is the TRVL theme the best one to use in your opinion? I selected it because it’s a travellers blog. Is there a better one and can I change over?
    Thanks,
    Geoff

    That’s such a hard question because I love so many of the themes!!!

    :)

    I think Trvl is quite nice. I also tend to like a lot of stuff in the photography section http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/subjects/photography/ but ultimately which theme you choose depends on your end goal, and if its to make an awesome travel blog, most any theme that displays pictures nicely will work really well.

    Actually, you might take a look at using the tiled galleries feature. They are these different layouts for photos if you have a bunch to insert at once. Take a look at the examples at the bottom of this help page to see what gallery layouts are available:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/

    You might really like the tiled mosaic one!

    I might as well stick with the one I’ve rather than change and have a load more issues to deal with!
    Thanks for your help and I’ll have a look at some of those galleries.
