Captions disappearing from images in gallery

  I’m helping a friend with a wordpress.com site (free version, no plug-ins). We are creating a page using a standard layout that includes a gallery. In the editor, I added a caption that is several words of text and few of the words include a hyperlink.

  Amazingly, when I update the gallery to add new images the captions disappear! So I tried a workaround where I add the caption while adding the gallery. That works just fine – it doesn’t get erased.

  The problem is that I can’t add a caption in the gallery that includes a hyperlink.

  Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I can’t image that this is by design. if it is, how can I add hyperlinks in images within a gallery and then not have to add them again after adding another image (I may have 15+ images and will be adding more so it’s just not viable).
