Captions for featured images

Hi there,
I want to add a caption for the featured image that appears at the top of each of my posts, so that people know what the image represents, who is in it – that sort of thing.
Is there a theme that allows this? Or if I pay to become a premium WP account holder, is this an option that will become available to me? Or is my only option to download from wordpress.org and use plugins?
For example, I would like to be able to add a caption to the header image on this post of mine: https://lambethcuts.wordpress.com/2017/02/06/why-people-use-foodbanks-an-interview-with-jon-taylor/

You can add titles and captions for images when you upload them, as outlined here:

Hi Dave, thank you so much for getting back to me. I had filled these fields out, but the caption still isn’t showing. But the link you just kindly shared says
“Note: The way the caption displays, as well as whether or not the image has a border, is a function of the theme you are using. If you have the Custom Design upgrade, you can change the appearance of images using CSS.”
So I that sounds like if I upgrade I will be able to tweak this! Really helpful – thank you very much.

I hit send before i was ready to. Featured images do not allow this. Images in the body of a page do. You might consider a small featured image related to your topic, and a large main image that you CAN add captions to. This gives you an identity across the top, and flexibility to have different images with captions as the subject of your posts/pages change.I apologize for any confusion i may have created.

Not at all, thank you. I hadn’t thought of that – I think that’s given me a workaround, in fact!
