Captions for image and gallery stop working
-
I just switched from classic editor to the new block-based editor. Post created with new editor has caption problem:
In editor view, captions look fine:
– smaller size than paragraph text
– slightly different color
– center alignedHowever, when open the post for view, captions are displayed exactly like regular paragraphs:
– same size and same colour as paragraph text
– left aligned
(i.e. refer caption for pic #9 water lily in post https://touchtwo.wordpress.com/2020/05/16/kl-to-hatyai-train-trip/)Recent posts created with classic editor all working perfectly.

Thanks @supernovia. Is below the ticket?https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/22188
If not, could you please shared the link?

No, this is an issue with the particular theme you’re using: https://github.com/Automattic/themes/issues/2098
I do want to warn you that Gateway is an older theme that predates the block editor by several years, so this might not be considered a priority to fix.

Thanks @kokkieh
I just updated the github ticket with my observation. The same issue is observed with another theme – Revelar, build by Automattic.
How do we know if a theme has not been updated for long time? In theme list, is there a way to sort/filter them based on the date of last update, so that users can avoid those seriously old themes?
Thank you.

The first set of themes you see when you go to My Site ->Design ->Theme are new themes specifically created for the block editor.
All the free themes that appear only after you click the Show All Themes button are older themes that predate the block editor, and that are not fully compatible with it. The premium themes should all have been updated for the block editor.
