Carousel/photo gallery permalink error ""Not Found, Error 404…"

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
Since the arrival of the carousel, when I click on “permalink” while viewing the photo gallery/carousel to get to the photo description, I’m getting this error “Not Found, Error 404. The page you are looking for no longer exists.” I noticed that if I edit the image, then save, the error message disappears. However, I was wondering if anyone else is having this same problem. Hopefully someone has a solution because it will take me a long time to edit/resave every image on the blog.
    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy, I just tried this with the image you mentioned as well as some other ones on that page. They all loaded the permalink properly the first time for me. Are you still stuck on anything? If so, can you let me know an image that is still broken? Thanks!

Hi Andrew, thank you so much for responding to my post. Yes, I’m still encountered this problem. I’ve found that if I go and edit the photos/gallery, the problem disappears. However, I haven’t gotten to all the photos yet (have lots on the blog).

Here is another example that I noticed this morning:

    It’s on the page:
    http://jimmorrisonsparis.com/visual-history-of-jim-morrisons-grave/

The problem happens with a photo in this series of photos (probably more, but I haven’t checked everything yet):
In the 3rd row of 3 black and photos with the following photo credit:

Thank you again for your help. It will be very interesting to know if other people are seeing what I’m seeing.

Do you have any news on whether the carousal will become optional?

    Cheers, Susan

Do you have any news on whether the carousal will become optional?

I’m sorry but it does appear the answer to that question is that the carousel is not going to become optional. Please see what Matt (wp founder) has to say in this thread > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-switch-gallery-out-of-carosel-view/page/3?replies=100#post-751978

@timethief Thank you for your response. I apologize, I read that thread, and saw Matt’s response, after posting my message. I’m not quite sure how to edit a message, but I would have liked to remove that question after reading the post with Matt’s response. I understand now that the carousel will not be optional.

Have you had any feedback about the bug I am encountering?

    @sbourdin
Hello again. :) We Volunteers cannot help with bugs. Please send in a bug report to Staff. Here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

Thank you timethief. I will try that option. I was just hoping here someone might have had the same experience and knew how to resolve it without bothering the special support staff (which I’m just learning about).

I was wondering if maybe my problem was due to the fact that I use a special character in my photo caption, e.g. ©. I will try with (c) as an alternative to see what happens.

This is the first time that I’ve ever had a bug with WordPress. So I thank you for providing the proper link for bug issues. I will bookmark it for future reference.

The special character should have nothing to do with it.

@thesacredpath I agree. My thinking is that it is not the root of the problem because almost all my images contain the copyright symbol. And the 404 error message concerns a portion of the images, not the totality.

Thanks for your input. I’m still having the problem. I think it’s just a bug due to the new carousel, which is completely understandable. I’m just concerned because I haven’t seen anyone else posting about this issue. I can’t imagine that I’m the only one with the problem.

I wonder if people have checked thier photo galleries/permalinks. Because the photos show up in the carousel, but the error message only appears upon clicking on “permalink”. Very strange.

Ah, the crazy, kooky world of computing. ;-)

The carousel feature is far from bugless.
