I need some help with catagories. What exactly is a catagory and what is its purpose? Why can’t I see them on my page once they are created? Thanks!

Categories and or Tags are onsite aids to navigation provided for your blog visitors for the purpose of locating content found deeper than on the front page of the blog. Visitors can click a Category or Tag and locate all published posts assigned to the specific category or tag.
All bloggers choose which Categories and/or Tag they assign to their posts. Categories and Tags are treated the same by search engines so don’t duplicate them and remember that they must be relevant ie. they must accurately reflect the post content.

Why can’t I see them on my page once they are created?
Until there is a published post that a Category or Tag is assigned to there is no data that can be displayed in the Categories widget, Tag Cloud widget or on the dynamic Categories and/or Tags pages.
