Catch-All Email Forwarding

Moving from Google Domains and was wondering how can I forward ALL email from my domain to a different email address?
I saw email forwarding section – hidden and hard to find on purpose it seems – but there’s no catch all forward? Is this something that WordPress.com domains does not support?

Hi there,
I see that your domains have been successfully transferred. Welcome!
I saw email forwarding section – hidden and hard to find on purpose it seems – but there’s no catch all forward? Is this something that WordPress.com domains does not support?
The email forwarding documentation you mention is intended for use when you have a site set up on WordPress.com. Currently I noted that your domains are pointing to “parked” pages (a few seem to be connected to sites hosted elsewhere) so they do not have email forwarding options active.
However, if you wish to set up email forwarding you can start a free site for any of your domains by going to https://wordpress.com/domains/manage and then clicking the … dropdown to the right of each domain, then create a site.
Once you have created a site, you an follow the steps here to set up to 5 free email forwards per site.
Email Forwarding lets you use your domain in your email address. This guide will show you how to set up this free email solution. About Email Forwarding With Email Forwarding, you can create an email address that uses your domain. All your mail will be forwarded to a personal email address you choose, and any replies will be sent from your personal email address. For example, if your doIf I can ask, can you tell us a bit more about what kind of catch-all emails you had set up with Google Domains? If you can share how folks are contacting you currently we’re happy to take a closer look and see what is possible here.
For example, all domains have privacy controls active by default, so if anyone where to check the WHOIS info for your domains they would see a proxy address (to protect your privacy) and if anyone were to email at that proxy address, we would forward that message to the domain contact email address you have set according to the settings here:
Domain owners are required to provide current and valid contact information. If the information you provided when you first registered your domain is no longer accurate, you can update it following the steps in this guide. Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Catch-ALL or wild card or *@yourdomain.com email address is well known. It sends any email address (not just 5 free email address you provide) to one email address that we want. It is bit surprising that you are asking for more clarification. It seems WordPress doesn’t support that. Can you please clearly confirm that WP will not support so lot of folks who are trying to move form google domain (due to it’s recent sell of domain business) can decide to go somewhere else.
-
Agree! This is a big need and a big miss for those of us that have just jumped over from Google Domains! Please investigate adding a catch-all email forward, ASAP. Thanks!

BTW, I don’t know if anybody else has tried the suggestion here, but these fail since the Google MX Records were carried over. It seems like setting this up should update the MX records, too.
-
Cleared all google MX records but apparently there is no catch-all or *@yourdomaon.com in WordPress domain. You can’t even save * as email address. WordPress support should reply back if they think this will be supported otherwise, we all should think that this is not supported.

Howdy y’all, this is not functionality that we’ve had much demand for in the past, but I’ve shared the feedback here and our devs are taking a closer look. Happy to update everyone here as soon as we have more info. Thanks for your patience!

FWIW, the non-wildcarded forwards will work, as I was wrong above about the MX record. But you do need to change the mailserver setting to be wordpress.
-
-
I transferred a few domain for testing… without catchall e-mail will not transfer anymore domains and will the existing ones somewhere else.
-
I’ve just transferred a domain to test the system and also previously used a catch all forwarding for email. I won’t be transferring any more domains until this is available

At this point there is no way to avoid losing 48 hours of email, because wordpress.com does not have configurable ttl, and the default is 48 hours. However, you can sign-up to improvmx for free. And once your mx record updates propigate your catch-all will work again.
Howevet, this is purely a temporary solution as one cannot expect improvmx to remain free unless they are selling your information. (If there is no obvious profit model, the product is you.)
-
WordPress.com has a overly minimalistic interface. You cannot setup 2048 bit keys. You cannot setup ttl. There is no catch-all email.
I expect to find my dkim txt record was not set properly gor my Google workspace.

@docbilla91147f744 – we do have five free forwarders here, for what it’s worth. If you would have needed more, let us know about how many so we’ve got an idea, though it looks like you’re using other MXs now.
Also, can you confirm whether you’ve got your DKIM working and if you need any more help with TTLs?

@supernovia, that definitely misses the point. In some cases it isn’t about how many, but just about knowing any email gets routed to an inbox. Google Domains is not the only provider to provide this feature and adding a catch all, programmatically, is not any more complicated than adding one more. (a simple else clause at the end of the ifs, to route the nonmatched address to the catch-all email)
We aren’t asking for another 2 or 4 or 20. Just give us a catch-all.
-
@supernovas fixed email forwarding is useless. We do not even keep track of all the addresses we use. We just makeup on the spot that tells us who we gave the email address to. If they share it with someone else we can block them. There has to be a few thousand in active use.
Until WordPress can implement catch-all I will use improvmx. If it doesn’t get implemented in the near future I will switch to namesilo, as I already have a number of domains hosted there and they fo support catch-all email forwarding.

BTW. For those who missed the sarcasm the part about class action lawsuit was tongue and cheek. I doubt the average customer who switches for a free year could show substantial damages …
I am sure many of are the free g-suite customers that signed up for Google domains when we though the g-suite accounts were to be cancelled. I found in the past most email forwarding defeats Gmail spam filters based on from. The Google domain forwarding did not.
I have no idea if any other provider can boast that. But since Google domains will soon be no more, it is a mute point.
