Catch-All Email Forwarding
-
@supernovia @staff-totoro — Hi WordPress staff. It’s been a month. Can we get an expected release date for the catch-all email functionality?
-
Our developers are still working on it. While we don’t have an exact release date to share with you just yet, please rest assured that once we have more updates or a clearer timeline, we’ll definitely let you know.
We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work on bringing this feature to you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions or concerns in the meantime.
-
I too will wait a little longer for catchall email to be implemented, before giving up and moving my several dozen Google domains to another domain name service. But the fact that it is taking your developers this long to add a trivial feature is not encouraging.
-
Catch-all email forwarding is a crucial feature when you have users that might guess or mistype an email address. It allows for me, as an administrator, to fix the issue instead of having the email bounce.
-
Thanks for the feedback, @cjmcqueen. We’ll share it with the team.
And @tannybear163b609ac0 I understand one of the bigger issue isn’t about coding in some toggle, but how it affects our reliability, as catch-all forwarders tend to land sending servers on spam lists. For now, we have added more forwarders (originally 5, now 25-100 depending on the plan.)
-
@supernovia – I’m glad you’re trying to move forward on this, but please be aware that adding more individual forwarders does nothing at all to remedy a lack of catch-all forwarding. These are distinct functions.
-
@tannybear163b609ac0 thanks, I understand they are distinct. It does apply to some of the use cases in this thread, though.
In the meantime, there are some DNS or MX services you can use that include catch-all by default and don’t require a domain transfer.
-
+1 – I’d like the catchall too please! Just allow wildcards like * in the email forwarding field please!

This is just plain Fudd. All my domains have used catch-all email addresses for decades. I can count the number of spammers that figured out they were catch-all domains and blasted random email addresses on one hand and still have fingers left over. Further, the pattern is so obvious they where trivially block listed.
Most spammers do not target catch all domains, because they know that it is an ineffective strategy. They are just too likely endup on blocked lists, and the pattern is do obviously abuse their provider will likely cancel their account.
-
Well this is dissapointing…
Guess you get what you pay for. Maybe by the time the renewal comes up catch-all will be a thing.

Beacause there is no rush. Once you transfer a domain you are locked from transferring again for a number of days. (90 days?) That is enough time for customers to find an alternate solution. So at that point they are not likely to transfer until they find a better price…

I just transferred one of my 10+ domains from Google. And now I ask am learning that there is no email catch-all functionality. It appears that WordPress is lagging, or dragging, on implementing such an option. So what then currently happens if someone sends an email to an address that technically doesn’t exist at my domain? Thanks!
-
Hi @wpatl2h,
To address your question, if someone sends an email to an address that doesn’t exist in your domain, that email will unfortunately bounce.
Having said that, our Professional Email service does support a catch-all email feature. This means you can set up an email address that will receive all emails sent to your domain, even if they are addressed to an email that doesn’t exist.
You can learn more about adding Professional Email to your site and how to set up a catch-all email for your domain at these links:

@fatat, How about addressing the question as to why this was promised as under development for regular domain settings and now you are telling us you decided to charge for this. This was a simple and free feature under Google. I will repeat that this added no complexity over and above the named forwards, so instead of offering something that was promised, you now see an opportunity to dupe and gouge your new customers. Promising reduced costs for transfers but then charging for everything that was free there.
I will look to transfer out my 20+ domains and will never again do business here.
What a horrible experience.
-
I have to say, now having it as a feature on a paid service dismisses every single argument as to why you could not implement this, or why it is taking so long.
If my slternate means of doing this wasn’t working, I would be transferring out. But since it is, I am quite happy to sit in your registry until I can score another free or discounted extention by transferring. But really you won’t ever make a penny off customers off me unless you can entice us to upgrade. However, poor customer service is not a way to do that.
-
Agreed on the horrible experience == negative branding, loss of trust.
$35/year/mailbox to get a catch-all, for something most other providers have as a standard free feature?
The only question is which alternative provider is best for our needs. -
