Categories

Hi, I have tried to put the Categories Widget in my sidebar, but no luck. I heard that you had to have a couple of posts with a category assigned to them before it would show, so I edited 3 posts and assigned them a category name, not joy.

In the Widget selection menu, the widgets I already have in the side bar show the text normal and dark. But the category widget is grey in colour and I can’t drag it into the sidebar either.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. How did you try to add the widget? If you were using the Customizer, perhaps try using Appearance ->Widgets in the WP-Admin dashboard instead, or vice versa.

Also try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser and see if that makes any difference. http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

Let us know how it goes.

Cool, took your advice and went into admin. On the far right was a list of widgets in my sidebar, and Categories was in there, but still not showing, so I scrolled down the admin page, and found Categories listed again near the bottom, so I dragged that into the sidebar and placed it near the top. Then refreshed my page and there it was. So great, thank you.

  • I’m guessing the categories widget you saw was the default widget that came with the theme. When you added your own widgets, the default widgets were cancelled, but for some reason (probably a caching issue) the categories one still showed.

    Glad I could help :)
