Other readers are complaining that when they try to click on the categories dropdown that a window with the name categories opens and blocks them from using this feature. Please advise as this is annoying, especially for those trying to make use of this feature with no success.

Hello there,
Thanks for the note.
I’m not entirely certain about what the trouble is. I did take a look at the dropdown and it seems to be working properly. This is the view I get when I click the dropdown menu:
I’m given the option to choose from your categories. When I click out of the menu, the dropdown menu disappears.
Did you expect this widget to work in a different manner, perhaps? If so, let me know.
It would help if I could see the trouble first hand, as your reader is experiencing it.
Please take a screenshot, so I can view the issue. You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there.
The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:
Just let me know when there’s something I should look at.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Hello,
Thanks for responding. I get the same thing as noted below. Categories blocks the dropdown.

Hey there!
Could you please send me that screenshot I requested? In order to fix the issue for you, I do need to see the error as you’re viewing it. You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there.
The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:
Just let me know when there’s something I should look at.Also, if you’d like to avoid the dropdown issue altogether, you can make your categories a list. Then, you won’t have any interference. To do that, go to your Customizer, here:
https://admincopro.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?
Then, click Widgets → Sidebar. Click on the Category widget to open it up. Then, de-select “Display as dropdown” and click the Save and Publish blue button at the top of the column.
That should do the trick — it will make your Categories list universally viewable without needing to rely on the dropdown.
Let me know if you want to work on that drop down, or if you prefer the open list option.
Thanks again.

Thank you. I did but it was in the email you sent. I placed 2 in the place you asked.

Hey there,
I see — attachments don’t work when you respond via email. However, I do see the image that you added to your media library. Thank you!
Could you tell me the version of the Windows operating system, and the version of Internet Explorer you are using? If you’re not sure, you can go to this site to check:
https://www.whatismybrowser.com/To get your categories list working in the meantime:
-
Please click the following:
https://admincopro.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php? - Click Widgets.
- Click Sidebar.
- Click your Categories widget to open it up.
- Click the box next to “Display as dropdown” to get rid of that option.
- You’ll see a Save & Publish button at the top of the column. Click that.
You should now have a working Category menu.
I look forward to hearing about your version information — we can see why you’re viewing the dropdown in a strange way in your Internet Explorer browser.
Thanks much!

Hi again!
This is very helpful to me. Thanks for the information! The issue doesn’t occur in other browsers, but with your Windows version/IE 11 setup, I can now see the problem. I can take this to our developers now, and let them know.
I see that you have created a list of your categories in the meantime. I’m glad there is a workaround for you.
One of us will be in touch as soon as the dropdown situation is resolved! Thanks again for your patience and all the data.

Hello as well,
Thank you for your persistency as it would not have made it this far otherwise. May your day match your lovely smile!
Respectfully,
Alan McDonald

Hey Alan,
I just heard back from one of our developers. He’s fixed the dropdown issue for you. You should be able to change that category widget back to a dropdown box and it will work well on your site. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks for your patience! Wishing you all the best.
