  Dear All,

  I need technical advice. I would not like to categorise my blog posts but I would not like them to appear as “uncategorised” either. Is there any way to avoid categories? I would like to switch categories off. I would only like to use tags.

  Posts have to have at least one category assigned to them, and as far as search engines are concerned tags and categories are exactly the same.

  Rename the “uncategorized” category to something that you can live with, and then go to settings > writing and make sure that that new category name is selected in the “default” categories pulldown.

  By the way, it is a huge disappointment… I thought I would be able to avoid categories.

  Tags and categories function in exactly the same way. So, since you do want to use tags, where exactly is the “huge disappointment”? If you want no categories in your sidebar, you can remove the widget. If you want them as a cloud, there’s a widget for that too.
