  I keep finding that i get a category named ‘1’

  Even after deleting it several times it reappears !

  Someone please explain how to vanquish it !!!

  If you don’t set a default category (Settings —> Writing —> choose default / save), then WordPress will assign one. Usually “1” oddly enough.
