    Hi,
I’m trying to post a blog post in my BCM110 category (and have only checked that one category when posting) but it gets posted in my other BCM112 category?
    How do I fix this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Note that the post links are appearing in the Recent Posts section. Perhaps that is a Recent Posts widget.

Be aware that if you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site any and all widgets can be added or removed here

    http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

    * Simply replace NAME_OF_Blog with the actual name of your blog in that URL.

Also, note that widgets have visibility settings that determine which pages they will be displayed on. See: Widget Visibility https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibility

Consult your theme description page here https://wordpress.com/theme/argent and click the open live demo site link.

    Thanks for replying!
Unfortunately I’m new to WordPress and didn’t quite understand most of the key terms you used 🙃 If you could give me a thorough step by step guide in helping me with this issue, that would be great! Thanks again!

  • Hi there,

The BCM112 in your menu is linking to a PAGE, not a category, and that page is set as your posts page, meaning it will always show ALL post you publish, regardless of category.

The BCM110 in the menu is linking to nothing, as the page with that title is not even published yet.

To fix this, first go to My Site ->Pages, and edit the BCM112 page. Change the title to Blog, or Posts, as that is your posts page.

Next, go to the Customizer. Click on My Sites, then click the Customize button next to Themes. Click on Menus. Click on Primary.

Delete the BCM110 item showing in your menu, as that doesn’t work anyway.

Next, click on Add Item. Click on Category, and add the two categories to the menu. Save.

Now the Posts page will show all your posts, while the two category links will only show posts published in those particular categories.

Please note that you cannot add anything to a menu unless it’s published first. So the correct way to go about adding something is first publish the page, or a post in a new category, THEN edit the menu to add the new page or category there.

I also recommend you remove the # from the page titles. We don’t use “hashtags” on WordPress.com, and having them in your post titles will only cause search engines to have trouble properly indexing those pages.

I suggest you take some time to work through our tutorial, then you’ll have a much better idea of what’s going on.

Thanks so much for the reply!
I’ve followed all your steps, but unfortunately still having troubles with the last section..
I went into themes (customise) -> menus and added both bcm110 and bcm112 (through the ‘add a menu’ button) as they’re were no primary button and didn’t give me the option about a category. So I’m still unsure how I link my current posts into both those different categories?

    Thanks again!

  • You have now added two completely new MENUS to your site. When you clicked on on the Menus option, were already two menus listed: Menu 1 and Social menu. Click on Menu 1, then you’ll see the Add Items option.

    Oh my god, legend!
Thank you so much for your patience! 😄

  • Perfect :)

I recommend you delete the two extra menus you created as well, so they don’t cause confusion further down the road.

So go to the Customizer and click on Menus, click on the two BCM items in turn and delete them, so you only have Menu 1 and Social left over. Your current theme doesn’t support a social menu, but you can leave the social menu so it’s there if you ever switch to a theme that does.
