Categories

I would like to separate my posts by categories, but I can’t seem to create a new category. Looking at the tutorials online, it looks simple and I should be able to click on the tab ‘Posts’ and go into ‘Categories’ from there. However, I can’t find the tab ‘Posts.’ I have a tab called ‘Blog Posts’ but this has not been helpful. I am using the free version of WordPress. Are categories only for paying users?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello @cloverandthistleimages,

You can separate your posts by categories even on a free WordPress.com site. You can derive at assigning categories to your posts in TWO MAIN STEPS.

    STEP 1 : CREATE CATEGORIES
STEP 2: EDIT BLOG POSTS AND ASSIGN CATEGORIES

    STEP 1:
You first need to create the desired number of categories, You can try to add Categories to your site this way:

    – Make sure Customiser is close by clicking x on the upper left hand side of the screen.
    – Then click “My Site” in the upper left hand side.
    – Click “Settings” in your left.
    – Next, click “Writing” at the top.
    – And click “Categories.”
    – Then, click “Add New Category” button.
    – Add all the categories you think you would need.

Please feel free to explore this link for a more detailed and also a visual guide to create categories.

    STEP 2:
You now assign categories to a blog post. In your case lets try and add a category to an existing blog post. Here is how you can do it:

    – Make sure Customiser is close by clicking x on the upper left hand side of the screen.
    – Then click “My Site” in the upper left hand side.
    – Click on Blog Posts, which will now display the published blogs in an order.
    – Click on a blog post and find Categories section on the right side of the edit page of your screen.
    – You will now see a drop down of the categories you created in the STEP 1 process. Check the box for a category you wish this particular blog post should be assigned to.
(I also suggest you uncheck the “uncategorised” box to avoid further confusions.)
    – Once you have done the above do not forget to hit the UPDATE button you see on the top right corner of the screen in pink color.
    – Follow the same steps for all the other blog posts.

Hope this helps you. Please write back if you need more help.
