categories

I have’t been able to get any categories happening. I need so clear instructions.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
You have to add the categories widget to the sidebar. Do note though that the only categories that will show up in the categories widget will be categories that have at least one published post assigned to them otherwise if there are no posts in that category, wordpress would have nothing to show.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve had another go following you advise and have had some success. I’ll keep working on it. Once again, thanks heap.

An other problem. I have a category with a drop down list in the sidebar but can’t get what I want in it. It keeps shoeing my home page.
-
Click on the category “lemons” in the pulldown. Not that above the posts it shows “Archive for the ‘Lemons’ Category”? That is the category page. You have only two posts and both are in the lemons category so the front page (which will show all your posts) and the category page will show the same thing. Once you get other posts that are not in Lemons then what shows on the category page will be different.
-
My problem is when I put info in the category Recipes & Tip > Lemons it changes my homepage as well. Why are the two linked and what can I do to change it.
-
The home page shows ALL posts from ALL categories. You only have posts in LEMONS so that is all that is going to show on the main page. Make a category called kumquats and make a post assigned to that category and that post will show on the main page, but will not show up in Lemons.
Again, the main page shows ALL posts from ALL categories. If you only have one category then the main page is going to show the exact same posts as that one and only category you have.

I think I must be getting ‘a page’ and ‘a post’ confused. My goal is to set it up one permanent home page and on the right hand side have a list of categories with drop down menus that will pull up different subjects and topic.

-
You can also use a custom menu if you wish and you can put the different categories up there either separately, or organized as submenus.

I know I seem slow at getting this but I’m making progress. I would like to have a catagory called ‘recipes’ with a drop down menu of recipes like they have on other web sites. Could I please have some simple instructions.
-
Hi! I created a custom menu on the side of my blog, which worked out great, except now the categories are repeating twice along the top blog header, like this:
Blog Name
welcome / about me / events / presentations
presentation / events / about me/ welcomeHow do I hide the second line on the top header? I only have 1 page (about me), and the rest are categories, so I am not sure why they are now showing up like pages.
Thanks so much!

@meganlibrary: Please create a new topic, in which you will specify your blog’s URL. Thanks.
