Categories and pages…
-
Hi,
I’m starting up an online music blog with news, reviews, etc, but I’m having so many problems. WordPress is so complicated to set up.
I was having problems with certain category posts showing up under the correct pages, for example, making posts under the ‘News’ category show up under the ‘News’ page. I’ve fixed that problem now with a custom menu, but it’s created another problem – It removed two of my other pages, ‘About Us’ and ‘Contact Us’.
I was able to make them show up again by adding the categories in my custom menu, but it’s taken away the descriptions/text I have set for the pages, meaning I’d have to create posts and have them under that category, but I don’t want that as it looks incorrect – I want my regular pages back. As well as taking away the parent ‘Reviews’ page which my Gig Reviews and Album Reviews pages were both nested inside.
How can I make it so that the categories go to the right pages for reviews and news etc, whilst still keeping the parent page and my normal ‘About Us’ and ‘Contact Us’ pages? (‘normal’ as in pages with text, not a post archive)
Any help would be much appreciated please.

Those pages aren’t removed, they just aren’t on the custom menu that you created. You simply need to go to Appearance > Menus and add those pages to the menu.
When you add a Category to your menu, what you see isn’t actually a “Page” (in WordPress terms), but a “Category Archive,” i.e., a list of posts.
I’d suggest you check out the following article to learn more about how menus work:

That was a very good idea to make your categories look like post pages but you’ve done some mistakes. Firstly you have added two new categories, “About us” and “Contact us” wrongfully to the custom menu.
Go to your custom menu > Pages > View all > Select all pages you want to add i-e about us etc. > Save changes.

Add categories and sub categories at the same time in the custom menu and then make sub categories the sub items.
