Categories and Update to 4.9.8

  I am unable to create a new category for my post as the category icon is unavailable – only offering my previously made categories. Which makes me believe it maybe something to do with the update it is insisting that the administrator is notified for WordPress 4.9.8. There appears to be no simple update. I am not very technical when it comes to these things, however it is anything but simple in its instructions. I am not clear why my site cannot automatically update when it needs to correct the software. What should I do?

  Thank you for the message but when I try to log in in order to get support on your alternative link, it refuses my username, even though I have it in front of me. Is there another option? I am at a loss on what to do and it seems impossible to try and get the correct assistance.

  Hi there,

  You will not be able to log into the WordPress.org forum using your WordPress.com account details, nor will you be able to log in there using the admin credentials for your site. To post in the WordPress.org forums you will first need to register an account on that site.

  You don’t need to have a WordPress.org account to use the WordPress.org software, so unless you’ve posted in those forums before, you won’t have an account there yet.
