categories are not being deleted??

Just updated my blog and want to delete the use of categories showing up on the theme layout. I’m currently using the Modularity theme and when you visit my site you will see Life during January 2011. This I deleted in my category section and it still shows up? I even changed the name to 2011 and there is no change in the category. Basically I want to remove any category from showing up on the layout. Or am I locked in using a category with the Modularity layout?
What do you think?

This typically happens when you have a duplicate tag and category. I see you have a 2011 tag as well. You will have to rename the tag temporarily and then you can delete the category and then rename the tag.

I changed the tag (which has 4 posts link to it) to 2012, but when I went to categories it also changed to 2012.
They are linked somehow and I don’t want to delete the tag if I will lose the posts.Remember I’m trying to change/delete the Life during 2011 heading on my home blog.
What am I missing here? -
OK, renaming the tag used to work.
Delete the tag. It will NOT delete the post. Then rename the category and then you can recreate the tag and apply it to the posts.

I deleted the tag and the category STILL shows up. I just want to rid the Title heading over my calendar.
I should be able to with the Modularity theme.What’s not working here? I’m updating the blog and hoping to resolve this.
