Categories are the core web site user friendly – why are they no longer supporte

    AS in the title.

Categories are a core functionality of a web site, whether commercial or voluntary. ie get users to the products or issues they want to focus on.

A recent upgrade as made existing categories sections unusable, and from reading other commentary a temporay fix is offered for this year and then nothing(???)

Why would you think users are so irrelevant that you just decide to disconnect a core function to make a web site user friendly.

Baffled as this self defeating decision.

I have recently upgraded a worpress site I have run for over a decade on advice from web hoster.

I am totally staggered as to the complete dogs dinner you have made of what was a really functional and quick method of uploading pages to a web site.

There may well be a need to have a version for new users with prompts but to make this the default is as dumb as saying all bikes should be made with training wheels.

I could in the past having made a draft in word upload a post in a matter of seconds or a minute.

Now the create post has loads of totally unhelpful and unecessary obstructions to doing that demanding that users should conform to the designers view of the world.

BUT WORST OF ALL IT DISCRIMINATES AGAINST THOSE WITH A VISUAL IMPAIRMENT.

ie the text size difference between the post text (enourmous) and then the really vital options of categories, tags, etc., are in tiny, tiny print in a column that randomly changes because someone, who may live their live like that, thinks there need to be blocks. And that all urls should be embedded.

Did you consult with users as to whether they want this nonsese. Or did you just take hints from George Orwell.

What was wrong with a single column layout to easily create a post, and then in logical order underneath add tags, change publication date or whatever.

Please advise how I can get rid of this unecessary obstacle to what was a remarkable simple and straight forward method of creating a post for wordpress.

And why you didn’t do a disability assessment before making this change.

  • Hi there,

Apologies, but we can’t help with your issue directly because we don’t host http://www.womensgrid.org.uk/16days/ on our WordPress.com managed hosting.

To explain, we are a fully managed hosting provider and use a custom server environment that is optimized for WordPress, provides built-in security and performance improvements, as well as in-house support for your site questions. You can learn more about the performance and security benefits of our managed hosting here: https://wordpress.com/hosting/

Because of the way we’ve optimized our service, we also use a customized version of WordPress that is different (under the hood) from what you use at Krystal Hosting Ltd. As a result, we do not have access to your site and are not familiar with the source of your issue.

The good news is that your hosting provider may be able to help in this instance. I recommend contacting Krystal Hosting Ltd for further assistance since they are in the best position to help.

Another option is the community help that is available here at the open-source WordPress forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

    Thanks!
