Categories disappeared after creating a post
-
Hello,
We would thank very much for a possible solution for our problem I explain here. Sorry for the lengthy text, which I tried to make easier to grasp the problem.!
First a few words on me:
- I have not created this website but I add data on it. Me is given full administration rights but my knowledge of WordPress is low. The website is build about 6 years ago and the person who did it is no more available.
- I have read here a lot of explatations on Category disappearings but the remedies are quite difficult for me to understand. But I will do my best to understand the possible remedy you propose.
On the website :
It is a quite simple website. The only complexity is that it is in 3 languages. The website consists of (for each of the three languages) :
- a Welcome-page, a Links page, a Contact page.
- a number of posts of individual Concerts
- a list of Concerts (Concertlist), created as a Category,
- each individual Concert can be opened here by clicking on its title in Concertlist
- a number of posts of individual Composers
- a list of Composers (Composerlist), created as a Category ;
- this list is in alphabetical order.
- each individual Composer can be opened by clicking on her/his name in Composerlist)
WordPress version : WordPress 4.7.26 avec le thème Customizr Child. If there is no problem to upgrade then I would do it but my attitude is quite conservative, because i’m not the owner.
What happened ?
A few days ago, I created a Composer-post, which I call here MComposer. When I wanted to check MComposer on the Internet, I discovered that it had not been added to the Concertlist. So I checked the entry, which, however, showed nothing wrong. After thinking for a while, I removed AComposer (the first composer) from the list, and to my surprise, the MComposer became visible. Then I added AComposer again and MComposer disappeared again from Concertlist.
This was surprising and very annoying but it got worse : a while later I wanted to open Composerlist again and this was no longer accessible !!!
Afterwards, I opened Concertslist. This was ok at first. But a moment later, on clicking again, this page had also disappeared. And, as in a cascade, also both pages in the other two languages became successively trackless.
For me this feels like a problem where the software itself is confused. Either that there may be a limit to the number of Composerposts that can link to the Composerlist.
I asked a friend, who has been working with WordPress for several years, to look into this together. She finds no solution and has the same suspicion as me : an error has crept into the underlying database : The link between Mcomposer and Composerlist is bad and has subsequently caused a cascade of problems in the links.
We have also not found whether there might be a limit to the number of Composer posts that can link to Composerlist. What is also striking and very strange is that in the Categories page of the WordPress, the Composerlists (in the three languages) no longer even have a clickable square on the left!
We have also tested what will happen with a newly generated Category. Result : same problem : it is not found.
We would thank very much for a possible solution !

Hi there,
Apologies, but we can’t help with your issue directly because we don’t host your site on our WordPress.com managed hosting.
To explain, we are a fully managed hosting provider and use a custom server environment that is optimized for WordPress, provides built-in security and performance improvements, as well as in-house support for your site questions. You can learn more about the performance and security benefits of our managed hosting here: https://wordpress.com/hosting/
Because of the way we’ve optimized our service, we also use a customized version of WordPress that is different (under the hood) from what you use at your current provider. As a result, we do not have access to your site and are not familiar with the source of your issue.
You definitely have the option to move your site to us so we can provide in-house help, and we offer a migration plugin that will help you move your site to our managed hosting in just a few clicks.
The Move to WordPress.com plugin allows you to start migrating a self-hosted WordPress site to WordPress.com directly from the self-hosted site. Prerequisites The Move to WordPress.com plugin installed on your self-hosted WordPress site. All incompatible plugins deactivated on the self-hosted site. ✅ There is no need to create a site on WordPress.com before you get starUnfortunately though, as it stands now, we are not able to help since it is hosted elsewhere. The good news is that help is available here at the open-source WordPress forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
The folks in that forum are more familiar with these kinds of issues and are in the best position to help.
Thanks!
