Categories do not display

I am starting a new food blog (no eye rolling!) and have posted twice. I have entered categories for them and put the category widget in my left sidebar (theme sunspot). I can see my categories in my dashboard but they do not populate on my site? I don’t know what else to try. I have the posts as private right now until I work out the kinks and thought I read somewhere that it didn’t matter – public or private. The categories should show.

The Categories widget has zero data to display until you actually publish a post (not a page) with categories assigned to it.

That explains the issue. They have to be published as public posts.

I have seen you respond to this question before. I have 2 posts, not pages. I checked that. I can click on categories in my dashboard and see them there, and I can click on “all posts” and see my 2 posts with the categories assigned to them listed. But it still doesn’t show the categories on my site.
