Categories dont display for Ryu theme
-
My Categories used to show up above the title of my post. Mysteriously, they just stopped doing so? I noticed you don’t have categories above your post titles either. Any ideas? Cheers!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi brennanresse,
I think you have to have at least 3 or more posts published before the category starts showing up? I just tested and experienced the same, until I published the 3rd post.I’m not sure what that is set up like that, but let me know if that solves it please?
Thanks,
Damon -
Ok I figured it might do something like that. What was weird is that during the preview post feature it was showing up, but not when I actually published the post. Thanks for feedback, Damon!

No you only need to assign a single published post to any Category before the Category will display.

Ok, I’ve engaged in further testing. I started with one published post assigned to a category, and nothing appeared above the title. Published a second post in a separate, new category, and then the category appeared above both of the titles. Perhaps, once you have two different categories then the category-above-the-title appears.
That does not seem like native functionality, therefore probably a bug.

In order for the category to be displayed, you need to have more than 1 category with at least 1 post in it.
The site in question has only a single category containing a single post, which is why the category is not displayed.
Cheers!

Thanks for the clarification @frankklein! Curious, that does not seem like typical theme behavior, or is it?

Each theme can have different rules for displaying (or not displaying) categories, depending on how the theme author set it up. In this case, Ryu is designed to only display categories once there are multiple categories being used. :)
