Categories for links don't appear on my homepage
-
I am trying to link an additional category to several already on my hoe page. I created a new category on the links tab, “My Blog Bookstore”. I then added a new link on “new Links” and saved it all. I checked off “none” for target (default). No matter what I do, the new category doesn’t show up on my site.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there – for the other two link categories that you have showing in your sidebar, you’ve added a Links widget and selected that link category. You now need to add one for the new link category so those links display in your sidebar as well:

Thanks. Is it possible to change the text in my “My Blogs” sidebar to bold for the heading words and sentences? Maybe change the color too?
Thanks in advance,

Because you have the Custom Design upgrade, you can do that with CSS. Try the following code:
#sidebar .widget h2.title, #sidebar2 .widget h2.title { font-weight: bold; color: #8b8b89; }The color code I’ve entered there is the one currently there. You’d replace that six-digit code with the color of your choice: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_colornames.asp
You will want to paste this code in the editor in Customize->CSS.

http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_colornames.asp does ot open. times out.
What’s the code for the same color dark blue as my title on the home page.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your time and energy, I am slowly figuring this out. Next is to change the color for the Link Name (one would be The CODES”). It is currently a bland grey, same color as the description. I am trying to figure out the CSS but it’s complex and I’m not the sharpest tack in the box.
I now have quite a few blogs and more people are actually reading them. I have had several people suggest I might make my site more efficient but I am not terribly conversant with the mechanics of doing that. Is there anyone I can talk to about someone that can look at my site and suggest how to make it “better” (and spoon feed me on how to do it). I am a busy doctor and I don’t have a ton of time to put into this.
Again, thanks in advance.

Hi there – sure thing, you might want to look into Tweaky, which is a WordPress customization service we partner with. They do exactly what you mention, and you can fill out this form to get a quote from them here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/customize-my-site/request-theme-customization/
For the widget links, try:
.widget.widget_links ul li a { color: #0000FF; }Again, replace that color code with whatever color you prefer. :)

I sent them a note, thanks.
I now notice that I screwed something up and can’t get back to it. Apparently the format for my home page was in the writing in the CSS page and I inadvertently deleted it to put the new stuff you gave me in. Now the headings are all just fine but the original page I had is gone. Any chance of getting it back?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there – you can see your earlier CSS revisions by clicking the “CSS Revisions” link in the corner of the Customizer:
https://gonzo66.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=editcssThat said, i’m not sure what’s been deleted? I see you changed the headings from that blue color to black in your CSS, but that looks intentional. Can you provide more detail about what’s not appearing properly?

It’s all screwed up. The homepage I had started with “Ramblings of a life observer” and the page was formatted differently. Now it starts on a plain white page with “About me”. I tried to restore the revision of 18 April, 2011 which is I think the correct one, but it doesn’t change the home-age. The color change for the headings on the right side are correct (I fixed them).

I’ve been working on it and now hopelessly screwing it up. Wold like to get the homepage back to where it was a year ago preserving the new heading and HTML link colors if possible.

You had the ‘static front page’ option selected in Settings->Reading, but you hadn’t selected a page.
I’ve now saved your “Reflections of a…” page as your static front page. Is this what you had?
The CSS only controls how various aspects of your theme display – fonts, colors, etc.
