Categories for Pictures

I’m a recent user using the 2010 theme and have been reading and practicing setting up my site as a photo blog; More Photo / less blog. What I have been unable to understand so far is if it is possible to have a drop down list of my photographs under different Category titles where I can click and see a photo and or a named grouping of photo’s that I will create. So far when I click a “Category” after adding a few picture posts linked to a category, I get a new page of picture titles but no actual picture views. I would prefer a hierarchy where I click a Category on my Home page named such as “Florida” and under that there might be a sub-category named “Everglades” which takes me to a page of pictures.
Now, I don’t really know if the 2010 theme is the best one to use for what I need, and I have been looking at the provided Theme’s thru a search tagged with “Photo’s” and “Photoblog”, so I may have to change over to something else. I have seen a couple Theme’s in a quick perusal which incorporate directional arrows to further picture views which I will have to re-investigate. I would tho like a couple of widgets at least on the Home page.
So, am I expecting too much for what is available? I do plan later to host my own site and buy a Theme that better suits my needs. For now tho I would like to get something online and not have to go thru the process of setting up something more involved which seems to entail learning HTML, SQL etc to tweak a site. I would prefer to do that at my leisure. Thanks for any help…Wayne

Twenty ten does not show the full post content in the category or archives view by default, but you can use the “excerpt” function and get the images to display. Read note #3 in the following post by Panos and then read the second linked post as well.

Ok, I did that and can now see my images when I click on the category. Thanks

Now I need to know is if it is possible to have a drop down menu under the category that will take me directly to a image or page of images.

You can create a custom menu and add categories to that menu.

Thanks, I created the custom menu but the text is very thin and light looking. It seems hard to notice. Is there a way to make the text bold? If not I may have to go back to the widget view.

Only with the Custom CSS upgrade and a solid knowledge of CSS, as far as I know.

If thats the only way, it seems like it was over looked and should be fixed. All it needs is a bold tag. ??

Headlines, widget titles, drop-downs etc are not configurable though.
