Categories function missing on left hand menu section?

  Hi,
  I am using WordPress (Free), and I just realised that I would like to separate my blog into categories, so I can have a separate blog feed for different ideas all in one main blog. I have seen examples of how to do this using the ‘categories’ functionality in various online tutorials. But when I look for the same tool on my own dashboard it is not there. It should be under the ‘posts’ section on the left hand menu, but it is not. Please could you tell me why this might be? is it because my account is the most basic or is there another way I should be trying to make this change to my blog please? Thank you, cliff

  Sorry, I found the solution, I didn’t look under ‘dashboard’ to find the menu related to categories.
  I was just checking the main menu on the left of the editor window.
