Categories have disappeared after adding ‘Pages’ widget
-
Dear WordPress people,
I followed the instructions on sorting pages by adding the ‘pages’ widget to my left-side bar. Whcih consequently has deleted the ‘default’ bar. Which means that I can see my pages, but my categories have completely disappeared.
Any ideas?
Here I am: http://mefirstparty.wordpress.com/
(If I figure it out in the meantime, I will post an answer to my own question).
Thanks! -
By muddling around I have solved my own problem.
If this happens to you:
After you have added the Pages Widget to your side bar the Default sidebar, including your categories, seems to disappear. To make them come back:
Copy the Categories Widget into the sidebar where you want them to appear – choose the same sidebar as the pages, otherwise all yr admin stuff will go missing.
Once you have copied it, scroll down the page, to ‘Categories Widget’
and select how many you want to see. Eg: 1
That should sort it out.

I’m glad it’s sorted out and thank you very much for coming back and sharing your solution.

When you start a blog, and choose a theme, the theme will display a “default” set of widgets. If you go to presentation > widgets you will see that there are no widgets in the “sidebar,” and what you are seeing is the default set. Once you add a widget to the sidebar, the default set goes away and you need to add in all the widgets you wish to have.
