  hi guys – im v new to all this and wondered how I can get my categories to be listed on my site?

  moreover, I have added a number of categories, but they do not show on my blog (within the widget)

  Have you used those categories in a post?

  Also: please always provide a link to your blog, starting with http. Usually we need to look at it.
