Categories hierarchy in admin but flat in production – howto?

    Hi,

I am building a new blog which will have many categories in a hierarchy. From experience, categories tend to change and move around. This can have a big cost in SEO terms (and broken links in general). My preferred solution to this would be to keep a hierarchy of categories in the admin section of wordpress but to have flat urls for them.

e.g. say we have internet and under it sub-categories: chrome, ie, ff. This will be normally configured in the admin. Currently wordpress will give those categories the following urls:
    /internet
    /internet/chrome
    /internet/ie

I would like to have it flat as follows:
    /internet
    /chrome
    /ie

Does anyone know how to achieve this?

    Thanks!
    /internet/ff

    No, you cannot.

I don’t even think you could do this with a self-hosted site and I can’t help but think it has the potential to turn into a WMD.

The blog linked to your name is empty – we need a link to the blog you are asking about to give you accurate help.

    Hi,

I have not setup the blog yet. If needed, I will use a private installation on our servers.

    Thanks!
