categories in mainsidebar

my categories in my mainsidebar is empty. i want to add something like places, people etc under categories. how do i do that? right now all i see is uncategorized. please help me!

It looks like this may be a self-hosted WordPress.org site on GoDaddy instead of the WordPress.com-hosted version that is supported here.

https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/With that being said, those categories are automatically filled in based on what categories you select on your posts; you can add these in the right column of the page while you are editing your post.
