Categories linking to en.wordpress.com
-
Hi… looking for help. Is it possible to not have the category links to en.wordpress.com/…? I’m using Tarski theme and the links appear immediately under the post title/heading. Feedback from visitors is that they find it very confusing when they click on a category and are taken away from the blog, to a list of posts that are mostly irrelevant. Many thanks (apologies if this has been addressed already!).
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is a good discussion of the issue:

At wordpress.com all Tags and Categories found either at the top or bottom of posts and trated the same way by search engines, in all themes except iNove are links that direct to the wordpress.com global tags pages. All Categories and Tags in widgets in sidebars are direct internal links to the content in the blog. This cannot be changed.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/Options:
If you change the visibility of your blog to “private” then all Tags and Categories will direct only internally to the contents in your blog. Or you can switch to the iNove theme. if you choose either option you will get no traffic from the wordpress.com global tags pages. -
Thank you – timethief, love your blog – really useful.
Can I just check – if I change the visibility to “private”, then it won’t be accessible to the wider world, even if they enter the URL direct into the browser? -
Hi 1tess and timethief – thank again for your help. Now I know what I’m asking I’ve found a number of earlier discussion threads which have answered my questions. Now I understand the options, it’s back to the site committee to talk about styles and themes… again! Best wishes to you

Whoops – sent that comment while logged in on another site (trying out iNove). Apologies for any confusion! :)

Yes. It the blog visibility is made “private” (option 1) then search engines do not index the blog content and it’s not made available to the public in the SERPs (search engine page results).
even if they enter the URL direct into the browser?
No. Please see here for the three blog visibility options you can choose > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
