categories linking to wordpress
-
Greetings,
Theme: Depo Masthead
URL: http://heygaboo.wordpress.com/I am using categories. I am not using tags. I have verified there are no tags on my blog. However, when I click the category beneath each post header, I am linked to wordpress.com and not my blog posts. The only category that works correctly is ‘uncategorized’. I toured around and noticed other blogs’ categories are linking to wordpress.com as well. Normally, categories are resident to a blog. A new phenom?
(I have also checked in the tag to category converter to ensure I have no tags. And I have deleted all my categories and recreated them.)
Thanks for any advice, g. Wit’s End.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No it’s not a new phenomenon (and you should have searched the forum before asking). Categories and tags in your sidebar or bottombar link to your posts; categories and tags in the post metadata link to the global wp pages. That’s the way wp.com blogs work, and it’s good for your traffic. If you don’t like that, you can go to Settings>Privacy and select the middle option.
(By the way, categories and tags are the same thing actually.)

Thanks for that. Really this is annoying default for anyone who simply wants to use categories to organize entries rather than drive traffic.

Switch to the iNove theme and you can turn the display of tags and categories in the post metadata off.

Accordingly i think that if you have a categorized format where in Tags can be used for each post then this would be an excellent method to read and will be good from navigation side.

Im not sure what you meant (mathewsteff), but I would propose Categories link to global WPpages (to drive traffic) and Tags to link to the blog’s own pages. I agree with the comment above though that the current setup is annoying. A captured reader suddenly ventures out because the last thing they read below a post are links to places OUTSIDE the blog. Good for driving traffic, yes, but both in AND OUT.

The Global Tag Listings at WordPress.com aggregate all published posts attached to any particular tag or category. Although the URL includes “tag”, the global tag listings also include categories. This is further clarified in the support documentation entry found at this link, which also has the answers to “Missing Posts” questions > http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/
