Categories lost
-
Hi,
My careware.wordpress blog lost categories ITSELF and only two of them are intact which are tips and quotes :-(
Can you please help to restore?
Thanks in advance
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have no idea why this would happen unless someone else registered on the same blog deleted them. Are you the only user?

the categories are still selectable in new posts BUT the old posts lost those categories and only left with two
no one else is registered on my blog
btw yesterday i linked my blog to facebook!

Well i wasn’t able to resolve the issue but i revert back to original state. The issue happened after i converted categories to tags…….
When i didn’t find solution, i reconverted tags to categories…….

Hi!
Yes, converting your categories to tags will remove the categories from your blog and posts. Instead, those categories will be applied as tags. If you would like posts to have the same category and tag, you would need to create the two separately. Does that make sense?

The conversion wasn’t accurate. Meaning that all the categories were converted but only two (tips and quotes) weren’t. so i was hanging in the middle to whether i stick to categories or to tags…….
it is something where the wordpress experts have to look into….

Hi there,
“Tips” is currently set as your default category under your Writing settings here:
https://careware.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-writing.php
As a result, it will not be converted into a tag when you do the conversion. Your blog has to have one category by default. Does that make sense? If you would like, you could create a new category and set it as the default category within your Writing settings mentioned above. Then, all of your categories (with the exception of your default new category) should be added as tags.
Let me know if you have any trouble moving forward!

Hi Jeremey
Thanks for explaining the process/reason :-)
May I know why TWO categories remained intact as contrary to your explanation that at least one default would remain……

Hi there!
I just attempted to convert all of my categories to tags, and the process was completed successfully (except for the default category). Perhaps you may have left one category unchecked when you were converting them? That would leave the unchecked category as a category rather than converting it to a tag. If you would like to give this another try, I’m happy to troubleshoot if you run into any trouble!

Hi Jeremey
I agree with your doubt!
Thanks for the support!
I don’t dare to try again….. :-)
