Categories not showing…

  Hello all,

  I am a real newbie (just a few days old)…

  Created a new site, theme, etc… Only added from the Dashboard, three categories. I then created a message and tagged it with one categories. When I click on Visit Site, my new posting is there (including the category name in the subtitle). Problem is that on the site’s sidebar, under the title Categories, it only says: No categories.

  What am I missing?

  Sidebars are cached and can take up to an hour to update, so I’d check back later.

  Also, remember that before category names will appear in the widget they must be assigned to at least one post so your other two categories will not show until they are assigned to a post.

  Your blog is set to private so we can’t look at it. If you have properly categorized your post and the categories widget doesn’t show anything, you need to contact support as volunteers in the forums have no access to the backend.

  Hi,
  I have another type of problem with categories.
  There is a certain category named “1”, which appears on my category list from time to time. I delete it, but then it appears again. I have no posts under that category so that cannot be the reason.
  Could anybody give a hint as to why it appears and how do delete it permanently? Thanks.

  That is because the default category was deleted and since wordpress can’t fine it, it creates another so that the system will not break.

  Go to setting > writing and set a new default category and then click “save changes.” Then go to posts > categories and delete the “1” category.

  I’m another newbie.I am just setting up my blog today. What are categories and where can I find a list of them? I click on “search categories” and nothing comes up.Is this the category for my entire blog or is each post a seperate category?
