Categories not showing up with Escutcheon theme

Trying out Esutcheon for my new blog. As mentioned in title, I just can’t seem to be able to make the category display for each post (on their own links, not in the feed), even though it appears on the demo site. Tinkered with a bunch of options, but still no luck. Any explanation on why it’s happening would be greatly appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! Do you mean the links on the demo near the top left (home, a parent page, html elements, etc)?

To add those, you’ll go into Customize > Menus and create a Custom Menu with the links you want, and set it to primary menu (which will tell it to appear at the top left on the theme).

This page has information on setting up a menu: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/.

Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Oh, it’s displaying properly now. I do not get this.

Still, I’ll describe the problem here, just for clarity’s sake:
Categories appear on the sidebar; that’s not the problem. The (ex-)problem is that when I go to each post’s permalink, there isn’t a category display where it should be – at least according to the demo site – shown as “Posted in” to the left of “Tagged”.

But now the problem’s gone without me having done anything. I even tried a new post and it works as it should instantly. Still, thanks for the response; I appreciate it.

  • You’ll need published posts in at least two categories for the category name to appear on single posts. Let me know if that does the trick!

Success! Thanks much, Kathryn! I didn’t even think there’d be a condition like this.

  • Great, glad you’re set! Yes, some themes set this condition as displaying the category when every single post has the same one usually looks a bit unnecessary. :) Many themes do the same with the author name, only displaying it when there is more than one author.

I see! I doubt I’ll be having multiple authors anytime soon, but at least I won’t be going through the same confusion again when it comes to author name display.
