Categories on Front Static Page?

  Is there a way to display the categories widget on the front static page side bar? Right now it only shows up on subsequent pages, such as my blog posts, but I would love for people to be able to choose a category right on the front page. Thoughts?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Yes, you can. You have to make the front static page (Default template) instead of (Full Width Page) that way you can have the same side bar for category widget as on your blog pages.

  You cannot make a category page the page on which your blog opens.

  Supernu’s reply is strangely written but correct: you edit the static page you’ve set as your front, select the default template for it, Update.

  @rain: If you mean make the blog front display a category page, of course it’s not possible (as you very well know). It’s just not what supernu suggested.
