Hello!
The Category widget is likely what you’re looking for.. there’s a guide on it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/
I hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi,
I want to display the categories on the left side of the blog on my landing page.
The Widgets section of the Lodestar theme guide says:
Widgets can be added to the sidebar and footer areas in Lodestar. Sidebar widgets can be set to appear on all pages except the static front page.
So the “landing page,” or static front page, is the one page (including static pages, posts page, and archives pages) on which the sidebar widget area does not appear with Lodestar applied. However, the sidebar widget area can only be displayed on the right side, not on the left, with Lodestar applied. Some themes have layout options that allow you to choose which side a sidebar widget appears on, and in some cases you can choose both left and right sidebar widget areas. Lodestar doesn’t have such options.
ATTN: STAFF – In tests I found that the sidebar widget area also displays on single posts, so the theme guide should be modified accordingly.
An important factor in whether the sidebar widget area appears on a static page (except the static front page), with Lodestar applied, is the page template assigned. The sidebar widget area will appear on a static page assigned either the Default or Testimonial templates, but not on a page assigned the Portfolio template.
