Categorizing Entries and Archives

  Hi!
  Hopefully, someone can answer my questions, as I am not very tech-savvy. For the past couple of days, I have been trying to figure out, how to categorize all of my blog entries. I have tried searching these two topics on here, but I’m still confused. Also, I would like to organize all of my entries under the ‘Archives,’ sidebar. For example, I would like to put my 2011 entries from that Fall, under a heading that says, Fall 2011. Is this possible? I have had this blog for quite awhile, and the ‘Archives’ sidebar, is taking up a lot of space. I’m trying to update it, a bit. As for my ‘Categories’ question, how do I change the ‘uncategorized’ part, to an actual topic, under each entry, which I’ve posted? I would love for them, to each have a category.
  Well, I hope this all makes sense. Can anyone out there, help? It’s probably more simple than I’m making it. Thanks!
