Category “1” keeps popping up

For some odd reason, I keep getting a category called “1”, which I don’t even create. It comes back after I make a post, even after I delete it.
All my posts are put into proper categories before I save and publish, so it’s not like “1” is a default category.
Does anyone else have this problem, and does anyone know of a solution to this minor annoyance? Thanks.

Yes, there’s another thread or two on this issue already. No solution as far as I know, just let staff know when Support re-opens in the morning.

I’ve noticed this too. When I did a forum search, I only got this post. Where would I find the other thread on this issue.. and is it a problem that everyone is having or just some?

Perhaps this is a consequence of the introduction of the tagging feature combined with not being able to change our category slugs at wordpress.com.

I have experienced the same phenomena on my blogs and I think we would all appreciate a clarification from staff on this.

To resolve this, all you should have to do is:
1. Go to Dashboard > Options > Writing
2. Change “Default post category” to the category you want
3. Delete the “1” (or whatever number you get) from categoriesAll set!!
(same thing works for links)
